Saturday, September 6th – Cleanup Project with Renew Pittsburgh – 10:00am – 1:00pm Volunteers will be scattered throughout Central and South Oakland to engage in cleanup activities, including a general litter pickup, cleanup at Dan Marino Field, and weed pulling on Parkview Avenue near Oakland Square. Volunteers will meet at OPDC’s office promptly at 10:00am to get their cleanup assignment, then head out to clean! Lunch will be provided.
Saturday, September 13th – 10,000 Volunteer Celebration and General Litter Pickup 10:00am – 1:00pm – Volunteers will perform a general litter pickup of Central/South Oakland by picking up litter and debris on area streets, sidewalks and curb cuts. In addition, volunteers will be responsible for taking down flyers posted on utility poles. Volunteers will meet promptly at OPDC’s office at 10:00am, get their street assignments, and then head out to clean. Lunch, including PIZZA and CAKE will be provided to CELEBRATE over 10,000 volunteers participating in KICO since 2003!
Friday, September 26th – 2008 United Way Day of Caring with Pitt – Volunteers from the University of Pittsburgh’s faculty and staff will be participating in various service projects throughout Oakland for the United Way Day of Caring. This year, OPDC will be coordinating two projects with the University. The first project will be at the Lawn Street Greenway in the Oakcliffe section of South Oakland. Volunteers will be continuing maintenance work at the greenway, and tasks will include installing a new bench, planting fall mums and wildflowers, raking a fresh load of mulch onto the pathway and picking up litter in and around the area.
The other project will take place at 141 Robinson Street in West Oakland. The apartment building, which is in the process of being acquired by OPDC this fall, will receive a fresh coat of paint in the hallways and in several apartment units that are currently vacant. OPDC is very excited to be working with Pitt again this year for the Day of Caring!
Tuesday, September 23rd – 6th Annual Oakland Restaurant Tour – 6:00 am—9:00 pm–Save your appetite for some good eats! The 6th Annual Oakland Restaurant Tour will take place at nine delicious restaurants in the neighborhood! To date, these restaurants include: LuLu’s Noodles, Lenna’s, Panera Bread, Qdoba, Red Oak Café, Chipotle, Dave and Andy’s Ice Cream, Rita’s Italian Ice, and India Garden. The Oakland Restaurant Tour is sponsored by OPDC and the University of Pittsburgh in conjunction with the celebration of International Week on campus. Your ticket will allow you to visit each restaurant and sample some of the many delicious dishes they have to offer! Tickets are $10.00 in advance ($15.00 at the door), and will be available at the William Pitt Union Ticket Office as well as at OPDC’s office.
